The Giulio Ricordi statue in Milan city center
The monument right next La Scala Theater
On Friday the 25th of November, the ceremony to inaugurate Largo Ghiringhelli and the statue of Giulio Ricordi will be held in Piazza della Scala in Milan. Ricordi’s statue has finally found its permanent and fitting place in front of the windows where the historic Ricordi store once was. The Archivio Storico Ricordi has contributed to the restoration of the white marble sculpture commissioned by friends and company employees from the sculptor Luigi Secchi in 1922, and placed in via Berchet where the company’s headquarters were at the time. It then was transferred to the structure in viale Campania, and finally taken to the little garden of the Ricordi offices in via Salomone. Music played by the civic orchestra of Fiati, directed by Maestro Luca Valenti, will accompany the November 2016 ceremony. The “Corazzata Sicilia” march by Giacomo Puccini, in its arrangement by Maestro Giampaolo Lazzeri for a modern band, will be played. To celebrate the event, on Saturday the 26th of November in the hall of the “Arturo Toscanini” boxes at the La Scala Theater there will be a public talk dedicated to the memory of the great music editor at which Claudio Ricordi, Mario Chiodetti and Giovanni Gavazzeni will speak, and there will be a concert with music by Jules Burgmein, Giulio Ricordi’s pseudonym.
